Anti-Aging Solution: The Benefits of Topical Vitamin C

Who doesn’t want young, glowing skin?

One of the most common questions I receive from clients is how they can reduce the effects of aging on their skin.

The good news? There are steps you can take to reduce signs of aging and maintain healthy, fresh skin.

First, let’s understand what’s causing aging effects.

In a single word: oxidation.

Oxidation happens every day when antioxidants in your body neutralize unstable atoms and molecules called free radicals. The increase in oxidation due to the presence of free radicals can cause disease, hasten the signs of aging, and generally wreak havoc on the skin, causing fine lines, loss of elasticity, etc.

The answer to reducing oxidation, and therefore signs of aging, is neutralizing free radicals.

This allows antioxidants to help to smooth, brighten and reduce the pigmentation changes in the skin as we age.

How exactly do you neutralize free radicals on your skin?

One of the most recommended ways is through the use of topical Vitamin C.

Topical Vitamin C is often recommended by dermatologists and has the most medical research among anti-oxidants, with researching dating back to 1983.

What to look for in your topical Vitamin C?

The most common form of Vitamin C is L-ascorbic acid. To achieve the ideal anti-aging benefits the concentration of Vitamin C should be above 10%.  Generally you can find this concentration in serum form.

Clinical formulas commonly have 15% L-ascorbic acid and some have Ferulic acid, which helps with stability and lowers the pH of the product, making it less irritating to you skin.

To help maintain stability, the Vitamin C Serums are best stored in a cabinet or drawer to avoid direct exposure to light.

How to use topical Vitamin C in your skin care routine

Generally Vitamin C serum should be applied 1-2 times a day after a cleanse and toner.

It’s important to note that there are many options available, be mindful of of the concentration amount and excess chemicals in the serum you select.

I always recommend our Anti-Aging CE Serum

This serum is comprised of a potent blend of antioxidants and peptides, it’s silky and powerful.

It has high concentrations of antioxidants that neutralize the menace of free radicals and helps to reduce hyper-pigmentation, while peptides pump up the production of collagen. Plus, in order to ensure this fountain of youth doesn’t just hang out on the skin’s surface, a trans-epidermal carrier is incorporated to deliver key ingredients to the deeper layers of the skin where they are oh so needed!

If you haven’t been using an Anti-Aging CE Serum before, well done for educating yourself and I encourage you to try one today to begin your journey to healthier, younger looking skin.
